It was a busy week in which the Texans addressed a number of critical needs. They secured a veteran center, a veteran middle linebacker and signed a receiving tight end that has already had success in the system. The Texans will now look to shore up some depth at various other positions. They still could use help at receiver, where they have only signed Kevin Walter.TEAM NEEDS 1.

--The Texans' organization was well represented at the pro day for the University of Texas. Coach Gary Kubiak, defensive backs coach Jon Hoke, owner Bob McNair and general manager Charley Casserly watched intently as quarterback Vince Young ran through his first workout for NFL scouts. He threw more than 55 balls and less than five were off-target. The Texans - and scouts from around the NFL - were more than impressed. "He didn't let anybody down," Kubiak said.

The Texans bolstered their offensive line by adding veteran center Mike Flanagan on March 24. The sides agreed to a three-year deal worth $8.85 million and included a $3 million signing bonus. Since the Texans had just moved Steve McKinney from center to left guard, the position will be Flanagan's for the taking when he joins the team in a week or two. Few argue that when Flanagan is healthy, he is one of the most respected centers in the NFL.

Texans Announce 2006 Preseason Schedule



The Houston Texans released their 2006 preseason schedule today. The schedule includes one game that will be nationally televised and another that pits Head Coach Gary Kubiak against his former team.

Texans sign Kalu



The Houston Texans signed defensive end N.D. Kalu on Monday.
Kalu, an unrestricted free agent, played in 15 games for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, starting eight. He had 38 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Terms were not immediately released.
The nine-year veteran was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the fifth round in 1997. He signed with Washington in 1998 after being released by the Eagles. He was with the Redskins for three seasons before rejoining the Eagles in 2001.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. They currently belong to the Southern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Texans joined the NFL as a 2002 expansion team. The city's previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997 and changed their name to the Tennessee Titans.
